AOI Electrical, Inc., offers a “Liability Fuse” as a standard feature on all Air Bag Control Switches. The Liability Fuse is built-in to protect both the customer and the manufacturer from false litigation. The fuse is designed to burn in the event of an accident that would normally cause the air bag system to deploy. The fuse then becomes proof positive of the exact position of the switch at the time of the accident. AOI Electrical, Inc., did not invent this technology. This is the same protection that all the new car manufacturers build into their factory installed air bag switches.
Though it has been stated, “any attorney could argue that the fuse could burn prior to an accident”; reality proves that claim to be wrong. In order for an aftermarket air bag switch to meet NHTSA’s guidelines, the switch must work in conjunction with the onboard air bag computer. Therefore, if there is a problem anywhere within the air bag system, including the aftermarket switch; the vehicle will report the problem via the SRS light on the dashboard.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN: If the “Liability Fuse” should prematurely burn, the air bag warning light will automatically indicate a problem.
Finally, in the event the switch is involved in an accident and blows the fuse, AOI Electrical, Inc., will replace the switch at NO COST, in exchange for the blown switch.
